For Immediate Release:

Serco Yamaha rider Kirk Gibbs has taken the overall Pro Lites win for Pirelli Scorpion MX at the second round of the Rockstar MX Nationals held in Canberra on 18 April. New Zealand Rider Cameron Dillon (Honda) also finished the weekend number one in the U19’s on Pirelli Scorpion MX while Tye Simmonds finished third as the highest placed Pirelli rider in the Pro Open class.

In good weather and on a varied track surface, Pirelli riders again acheived some very strong results in Canberra as the teams continue to develope their bikes early on in the season.

Pro Opens

Round 2 round saw the best overall results so far this season for Pirelli riders in the Pro Open class with Tye Simmonds (JDR Motorex KTM) third, Dean Ferris (Honda) fourth and Andrew Macfarlane (JDR Motorex KTM) fifth.

With four back to back moto’s, tyre choice was a critical part of success for the day. Riders chose a mixture of compounds including Mid Soft (32) and Mid Hard (454).

Dean Ferris commented after the race “with such a varied track surface I decided to use the Mid Hard (454) for todays races. The tyres hooked up really well and let me push for the lead on my Honda right from the start and throughóut the four motos”. Ferris finished with a best of second in moto's two and three.

Tye Simmonds opted for Mid Soft (32) and also acheived a best of second in moto's  one and four.

Andrew Macfarlane had a strong and consistent day for fourth overall at round 2 for KTM.  He took away another good haul of points and currently sits in fifth in the championship.

“Everything was flowing well for me on the KTM 450 SX-F, and the Pirelli Tyres really held up well on the track with traction.”

Craig Anderson (Berry Sweet Husqvarna) also continued his developement of the Husqvarna with a best result of thirteenth for the day.

Pro Lites

Kirk Gibbs (Serco Yamaha) was consistently fast over the four back to back moto’s in the Lites to take his Yamaha YZ250F to first place overall. Using Scorpion MX Mid Hard (454) he scored 2 2 3 3 results for an impressive round win.

The racing in this class was intense with PJ Larsen (JDR Motorex KTM), Ford Dale (Serco Yamaha) and Lawson Bopping (Rockstar Motul Suzuki) all joining Gibbs to fight for the lead in todays races.

PJ Larsen finished as the next best Pirelli rider with third overall after two moto wins, followed by Ford Dale in fourth and Ryan Marmont (JDR Motorex KTM) in fifth.

Team Husqvarna again showed some good pace with Matt Ryan scoring third place in the final moto for seventh overall as the team continue their rapid developement of the TC250.

Gibbs now leads the championship heading into round three, with Larsen and Ryan in second and third.

Under 19’s

The Pirelli Under 19’s championship again saw fierce competition over the four moto’s. New Zealand rider Cameron Dillon (Honda) took the Canberra round win on Scorpion MX Mid Soft (32) ahead of Luke Arbon (Kawasaki) and fellow Pirelli rider Josh Cacchia (Coastal KTM).
