RACELINE PIRELLI SUZUKI CLAIMS DUAL PODIUM AT SYDNEY ROUND OF SUPER X

Team Raceline Pirelli Suzuki rising stars Lawson Bopping and Errol Willis have claimed a dual podium result for the team in Sydney’s third round of the 2011 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday, 5 November.

Pro Open class rookie Lawson Bopping, 21, raced to his first career podium in the premier class with second position overall during the Triple Header main event, winning the first final before backing that result up with exceptional 5-2 finishes.

Bopping was flawless aboard the 2012 model Suzuki RM-Z450 on his way to victory in the first seven-lap final and he now sits sixth in the standings despite a DNF in the mud at Melbourne’s season opener last month.

“The whole weekend went good for me and I’m stoked to be on the podium,” Braidwood resident Bopping said. “Winning the first final was a good feeling for me, so it was a great night.

“Hopefully I can keep the momentum on my side. Every round has been better and better, so with two more rounds to go I’ll hopefully keep doing what I’ve been doing.”

National motocross champion Willis and his Suzuki RM-Z250 continued to prove they are the class of the field in the Under 19s category, taking his second win of the season and extending his points lead to 12 over Suzuki privateer Corey Lucas.

In the first dry round of the season, 18-year-old Willis was smooth and calculated on a technical track during the eight-lap final, rising to the top despite a heavy fall during the practice and qualifying session in the afternoon.

“It was a solid result for both myself and Team Raceline Pirelli Suzuki,” Willis said. “Hopefully I can do much of the same for the rest of the season and wrap up another title for the year.

“I’m trying to ride as fast as I can in each race and also trying to judge myself compared to the Pro Lites riders, because that’s where I want to race next year.”

Chris Tisdale, General Manager, Team Raceline Pirelli Suzuki said “We’re very pleased with the result this weekend. Chris Woods (Team Manager) and the team have worked very hard and it’s great to see both riders on the podium. Errol continues to impress me. I think there were a number of riders that could have challenged Errol for speed in the heats but when it’s time to perform he takes his riding to another level. Lawson’s second place represents what we have known all year. He is one of the fastest in the country and deserves to be up there. We’re very proud of the result this weekend and look forward to a repeat in Maitland for round four.”

The Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, will continue this Saturday night on 12 November at Maitland Oval in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, the penultimate round of season 2011.
