Sunny Corner Rally Report 2009

29th January 2010

The best weekend is a dirty weekend!

What a great weekend it was, In the middle of a picturesque state forest surrounded by what seemed like thousands of dirt bike riders with one common goal in mind, to have fun!

Even the locals from the Bathurst & Lithgow region camped at the rally site.  Seems to me Sunny Corner Rally is an escape for the lads & a chance to catch up & enjoy each other’s company doing what they really enjoy, fanging around on dirt bikes.

Riding into the site there were campers all over the place. Some had been there since Wednesday & Thursday and very well set up, big marquees, bikes close by, sitting around a good size fire with a can in hand, and this was at 2pm on Friday arvo!

Scrutineering was something to behold on Saturday afternoon. Being a rep from Link International and being just a little biased, all I could see was a sea of Motul Bags and Pirelli Lanyards hanging around riders necks, they were everywhere you looked. (Oh yeah, saw some bikes too!)

I must mention that I was surprised at how many riders turned up to the event needing bits & pieces, mostly tyres. After doing a loop, 80K and about 3 hours for some, Saturday afternoon become a hive of activity at the BEARD BROTHERS PIRELLI SITE. We were borrowing race stands for what very quickly become a back log of bikes to sort for tubes & or tyres.

Cameron Beard from Beard Brothers Motorcycles, the local Honda, Suzuki & Yamaha dealer in Bathurst get’s 10 points for his efforts over the weekend. His enthusiasm was outstanding.

He took 60 tyres, trailered a tyre changing machine, massive quick shade, compressor, generator and of course the all important esky to the site & set up on both Saturday & Sunday giving these guys an opportunity to purchase a quality tyre when the one they had on was not up to it. Must have fitted over 50 tubes over the weekend and almost as many tyres amongst other bits & pieces, body armour, tear offs, oil and even a sprocket or two.

The ground being as rocky as it was, the PIRELLI XC MID HARD were a very popular choice given the terrain. Guys riding with Michelin S12 were chunking them out in less than a day and changing to the MID HARD in the afternoon.

The weather was outstanding, unlike last year’s event as I understand it, it bucketed down on the Saturday night turning the forest into a quagmire. This year the weather was nothing but fun in the sun.

I’m sure that if you spoke to anyone that went, riding or not, they would all come to the same conclusions........

some of the best weekends are dirty ones!
