TAMARA GRAY READY FOR NEW CHALLENGES IN 2011
Yamaha’s Tamara Gray is ready for the green flag to drop on her 2011 race season ahead of this Sunday’s opening round of the Yamaha Sprint-X Country series.
After a productive and successful off-season, a busy year awaits the Brisbane dirt bike racer who will be mixing it up by competing in both Motocross and Enduro. Keen to re-conquer her home state of Queensland, Tamara also has her eyes fixed on the Australian Women’s Motocross Championships and Australian Four-Day Enduro.
“I have been doing the same thing every year for what seems like forever. It became time to put new challenges to myself. Mixing it up over the past few months has let me get so much more time on the bike and it’s been so incredibly fun, and in saying that I am really excited about the events in the coming months”
Yamaha Queensland has returned to back their long time lady blue rider supplying her with an YZ250F for Motocross and an YZ125 for Enduro.
“I have been the pilot of the YZ250F for Yamaha for 10 years now, so the addition of the two-stroke has been a great change. I am not a particularly big rider, so the choice for the 125 was an easy one for me. I was surprised with the bike’s capabilities and think it’s a drastically under-rated motorcycle.”
“Ward Racing Developments has played a bigger role this year in getting both bikes performing at their best and I am really happy with both the 125 and the 250F heading in to this season”.
This weekend’s Yamaha Sprint-X at Mount Tamborine is the first stop before the opening round of the Shell Advance Sunshine State Series – where for the first time a stand-alone women’s class has been created. From there it’s on to the Queensland Women’s Motocross Championships, then A4DE.
Tamara is considered a pioneer of women’s racing is currently ranked first in Queensland for Natural Terrain MX, and second for Motocross, with a ranking of seventh nationally. Tamara has won 10 QLD senior women’s motocross championships and was the first women in her state to be graded to intermediate amongst men’s competition in motocross.
Tamara continues to race for the love of racing and riding motorcycles.
