Well known TV personality and personal trainer Steve Willis needs no introduction. Star of reality TV shows including the Biggest Loser and Australian Survivor, Steve’s life history is interesting and quite varied.
Growing up in the Redcliffe region of southern Queensland, his family moved to Maryborough where he completed his year 11 and 12 schooling. He then joined the Army in 1995, originally intending to gain a trade as a carpenter. However, the directing staff on his training course persuaded him to join the “proper” army and become an infantryman. Fortuitously, his infantry outfit morphed into a Commando unit – hence his nickname in civilian life.
On leaving the Army, Steve’s military mates knew of a casting company who were looking for something out of the ordinary for a new reality TV show – the Biggest Loser. His mates suggested Steve “Commando” Willis would make a great trainer to help contestants achieve their goals – and Steve’s military back-ground and sheer love of training and exercise ensured his team always pushed themselves harder than they could ever have imagined – that is the military way.
Of course, since the Biggest Loser, Steve has starred in 2018’s Australian Survivor with his rugby-loving mate Mat Rogers and is now involved in helping Mat with his work to help kids with autism through the 4 ASD Kids Maxing Out campaign, named after one of Mat’s boys, Max.
Another of Steve’s latest adventures has been to gain his motorcycle L-Plates and source a new Yamaha XSR700 from Trooper Lu’s Garage (TLG) at Moorebank to the west of Sydney NSW.
Of course, having a shiny new bike is all very well but Steve is a family man and as such wants to be as safe as possible, so naturally TLG recommended he try out some riding gear from Link International. Steve selected an AGV X3000 Legends and K5-S helmets; several Macna products including an Aytee jacket with night eye technology in blue camo and a green Combat jacket; Stone jeans; Talon gloves in black camo and Assault gloves in black, plus a couple of pairs of TCX boots, one pair of Street Ace Waterproof in black and one pair of Street Ace Anthracite Airs.
“I’m just an ordinary guy who’s been blessed with some happy coincidences in my life,” said Steve. “I enjoy being with people who, like my Step-Dad, have a love of life and a love of going fast – I guess you could say I’m a bit of a rev-head. So, after a long time just being a lover of motorcycles I did something about it and got that little yellow L-plate to stick on the back of my XSR700 – I really love the freedom of riding and want to thank Justin at TLG and you guys at Link for your support and encouragement.”
