Having been producing motorcycle chains since 1953, RK has been at the forefront of motorcycle drive chain technology, developing the sealed ring chain in the mid 1970’s. RK’s sealed ring drive chain was thrown in to the spotlight during a 24 hour endurance race, in which teams typically changed the drive chain 3 times during the race. But when a team using the newly developed sealed ring chain from RK went on to win with a chain that lasted the entire race, a new standard had been set. This was just the beginning, and now RK has more than 40 years of experience researching, testing and developing chains for high performance motorcycles. RK Takasago chain, the name that has long been synonymous with quality.
RK Sprockets are manufactured using the latest industry leading Japanese technology. RK’s range of steel sprockets utilise advanced heat treating and are precision machined for enhanced power delivery and efficiency. All RK steel front sprockets are manufactured using SCM-415 Alloy Steel and receive a specialised carburizing heat treatment which hardens the teeth to provide maximum durability to the life of the sprocket. RK steel rear sprockets are manufactured using S45C Carbon Steel, are shot peened and receive a high frequency induction heat treatment to harden the teeth and provide maximum durability to the life of the sprocket. RK is the only manufacturer in the world to produce all sprockets with induction hardened, heat treated teeth.
RK’s range of alloy sprockets are designed for racers looking for maximum performance from their motorcycle. RK Alloy sprockets are manufactured from 7075-T6 Aircraft Grade European Aluminium, are CNC machined, have self-cleaning mud grooves and are hard anodised in a range of colours. You can be sure that when you choose RK Sprockets, you are choosing sprockets manufactured to the highest quality and ready to deliver maximum performance with unmatched durability.
RK Sprockets are manufactured using the latest industry leading Japanese technology. RK Sprockets are used by world leading motorcycle manufacturers and race teams. RK has a range of both steel and light weight alloy sprockets.
Be sure to only fit sprockets of a design and number of teeth which are compatible with your model of motorcycle. An incorrect fitment may cause damage to the sprocket and/or the motorcycle, or cause a serious accident.
RK sprockets are designed and produced under strict quality standards to provide a full service life when used in conditions for which your motorcycle was originally designed. No warranty, either expressed or implied, applies when any sprocket or the motorcycle to which it is fitted has been modified, used in racing or any competition nor subjected to abnormal use, or used without the correct maintenance.
Sprockets are a consumable item. The life span of your sprockets is largely reliant on the condition of the drive chain. Regular maintenance of the drive chain, by checking adjustment, cleaning and lubricating at periods recommended by the motorcycle manufacturer will ensure the best life of your sprockets. Failing to maintain correct chain adjustment and lubrication may render any sprocket warranty null and void.
It is recommended only suitably qualified persons or a professional mechanic change sprockets and/or drive chain, with adherence to the motorcycle manufacturer’s recommendations for assembly method and torque specification.
When sprockets or drive train show signs of wear, replace as soon as possible.
Using worn sprockets with a serviceable drive chain, or worn drive chain with serviceable sprockets will compromise the life span of both chain and sprockets and the performance of your motorcycle. Replacing both sprockets and drive chain at the same time is highly recommended to ensure the best performance and reliability of your motorcycle.
Do not check adjustment, clean or lubricate drive chain or sprockets while the motorcycle’s engine is running as an unexpected accident may occur. All drive chain and sprocket maintenance must be carried out only after the engine has stopped.
It is extremely important to maintain your chain correctly to achieve the maximum life expectancy of your roller type drive chain. No matter what brand or type of chain you purchase, it will not last if it is incorrectly maintained.
Always follow factory recommendations for chain adjustments. Adjust your chain alignment and tension to the OEM specifications for your motorcycle. New Chains: After fitting a new chain, it should be checked and adjusted after the first 50 kms and again after every 250 kms. All Chains: The chain should be checked and adjusted after every 250 kms and for any Off-road use or any type of Competition use, the chain should be checked and adjusted every 30 minutes or before each Ride or Moto.
Cleaning is a crucial step in maintaining your chain. It should be cleaned every 500 kms or less, depending on conditions i.e. Off Road or any other Competition use. Use Motul Chain Cleaner (16-710-00) to remove grime from around the link plates and rollers. Never use contact cleaner, high pressure or steam cleaning process as this will contaminate the internal lubrication. Additionally, for sealed type chains (O, X, XW, U-ring) never use a coarse stiff brush as this will cause damage to the O-Rings.
Lubricant must be applied after cleaning and be repeated every 250 kms or less (depending on riding conditions). Motul chain lubricants are recommended.
We recommend the following which can be used on both
99.9% of all chain failures can be attributed to the following reasons. Incorrect application, poor installation or improper adjustment, mismatched drive components and the lack of correct maintenance – any of these situations can and will create the dynamic force which will result in a chain failure.
Warranty applies only to sealed type chains (O, X, XW-ring) on road bike use only and is covered by a 10,000 kms Pro-rata Warranty.
The Warranty covers against manufacturing defects only. Warranty does not cover - incorrect application, mis-installation, improper adjustment, mismatched drive components and the lack of correct maintenance.
Please note, the correct chain type application must be adhered to – refer to Link International’s current chain and sprocket applications.
There is no warranty of any kind, for a chain used in any dirt riding, road racing, race practice or ride-day activities.
